How it all started – a fairly complete 1981 Susuki GSX250 EX.

After some deliberation, we decided on a brown scrambler seat. With the idea we would end up with some sort of brat-style rear fender and dark colour scheme. The tank would be raised at the rear slightly to match the frame rail and seat position, as it tend to ‘lean back’ in the stock bike (see above).

Pretty significant bob of the front fender here – done in-situ!

Tank stripped back to bare metal and the rear of the frame detabbed. Plan is to have all electrics tucked up under the seat in a custom tray with an antigravity lithium battery thrown in there too.

Tank in hi-fill primer. What seemed like a pretty straight tank ended up being a lot of prep work to get (almost!) right.

Popped a fresh tyre on the front wheel. Should have used rim protectors!

  • We get quite a few emails from readers asking why we focus so much on pro customs, and not backyard builds from talented amateurs.
